Our Philosophy

  • To be a pro-active and innovative accounting and advisory firm focused on creating long lasting relationships with our clients.
  • Rather than just have an accountant, our business clients should enjoy a ‘business coach’ relationship.
  • From compliance to consulting we have a commitment to excellence.
  • To be active in understanding our clients’ individual needs and provide advice that is both technically sound and success driven.
  • Guarantee clients the highest level of confidentiality and integrity in relation to their financial affairs.
  • Our clients are never too small or insignificant and no job is too hard or too small.
  • With the tax laws constantly changing our team members agree to undertake extensive professional development to keep their skills at the forefront of current standards and practices.
  • At all times provide friendly, courteous and personal service from an enthusiastic team who endeavour to deliver quick turnaround of compliance work.
  • To be accessible which includes returning client calls promptly and recognising that clients’ needs often extend outside regular business hours.

History of the Firm

The Taxnet Accounting practice was formed in the early 1990’s and is headed by our Principal, Colin Butson. The firm continues to grow thanks largely to the referrals from our satisfied loyal clients and since 2002 we have also successfully completed several mergers with smaller local accounting practices.

The firm has evolved from a traditional tax and accounting practice to a full financial services firm providing small business owners with more than just tax returns and compliance. Our role is to help you grow your revenue, profits and business value plus create wealth using tax effective strategies such as negative gearing and superannuation. While we service a broad range of clients from all around Australia we maintain a deliberate focus on small business - from trades people to professional service and medical providers, primary producers, property developers and self managed superannuation funds.  With Colin’s background in Financial Markets and Stock Broking, it’s no surprise that the fastest growing area of the practice is Self Managed Superannuation Funds.

We understand the ambitions and hurdles that small business owners face and we take pride in our client’s achievements. Our reward is your success and while we are big enough to handle complex technical tax issues, we are small enough to maintain our commitment to personal service. As a progressive firm we continually adopt the latest technology and regular communication with clients is a priority through our quarterly ‘On The Money’ newsletter that is full of business development strategies and wealth creation tips.

Our People

Our team at Taxnet are committed and dedicated to providing the services you need in a professional but very personalised way. Here are the members of our management team that will be looking after you when you allow us to provide you with accounting services:

Colin Butson – Principal

Colin is a CPA and the Principal of the practice. His pathway to public practice has not been conventional because after completing his Bachelor of Business (Accounting) he has held a number of roles in commerce including managing the superannuation funds of an insurance company, share broking, financial markets dealer / bond trader, corporate finance and advisory with a large Australian bank as well as working in financial services both in Melbourne, London and New York.

For a large part of this time, he operated a successful part time accounting practice before moving full time into this space in 2001.

Outside the office Colin loves watching a good movie on the big screen or just relaxing on the beach listening to the surf roll in. Then of course, there’s an interest in Japanese and Chinese cuisine, or for that matter any fine food. As they say, “you are only here for a short time, so make it a good time and enjoy life” and Col lives by that motto.

Angela Au Yeung – Senior Accountant

Angela has been with Taxnet and its predecessor for over 14 years and has a wealth of experience in Accounting and Taxation matters. She is a Property Development ‘expert’ and has a lot of experience with a number of accounting software programs including Cashflow Manager, MYOB and Quickbooks.

While she is a self confessed workaholic, outside the office she is a budding ‘Masterchef’ who enjoys cooking and trying new recipes. The team at the office congregate around Angela’s desk when she brings in a sample of her cooking! Angela is fluent in Cantonese and comes from a large family (one of 10 children) and also enjoys spending time with her 16 nieces and nephews.

Rachael Jeffery – Accountant, CPA

Rachael has been with Taxnet for almost 6 years and focuses on Individual and Small Business tax returns.

She enjoys travel and listening to music, so is often at the snow fields or a music festival. She also likes to curl up on the couch for a movie – her favourites include How to Steal a Million & Amelie.

Mary Anne Zamer – Accountant

Mary qualified as an Accountant in Egypt and is continuing her studies for CPA status. Mary specialises in Primary Production businesses, BAS preparation and Small Business Accounting.

With two young boys and her studies, Mary keeps busy when not in the office. She is an active member of her church and enjoys socialising with friends, family and playing her son’s Nintendo DS.

Amy Condon - Accountant

One of our longest serving team members, Amy commenced work with Taxnet as part of her school work experience program before accepting a full time position. She has many years of experience working with Cashflow Manager, Quickbooks and MYOB plus a range of other business software products.

Amy enjoys spending time with her young son especially at the pool for swim lessons, her husband’s homemade pizza and any movie with Reece Witherspoon (Legally Blond is her favourite). Her favourite colour – no surprise, is pink.

Bev Brown – Office Manager

Bev is the power house behind the smooth operation and functioning of our office. She manages all of our back office functions, monitors work flow and ensures that nothing goes astray.

Bev can lend herself to any task which is obvious when you see her at home on the farm, with her animals, amongst the trees and the wildlife. You won’t find Bev in front of the TV, rather she will be off somewhere building something – unless of course, those fine men of Rugby or Cricket are on.

Heather Gee - Receptionist

Heather is our part time receptionist and jack of all trades. Her bubbly personality and “comic relief” attitude to life in general helps keep a smile on all of our faces.
